Q&A

Just sharing some of the questions that I ever came across in my life as a soundman.

Is the shotgun mic that you used is as good as the mkh416?

Q

Sennheiser MKH416 is a well-known broadcast shotgun mic. It has been around for many years and many soundmen can vouch for its performance. But MKH416 is Sennheiser mid range model. Their higher range model are MKH60 and MKH8060. I am using a DPA4017B. I believe that this shotgun mic performs exceptionally well and within the range of other high end range microphones such as Schoeps CMIT5U, Sanken CS3E, Neumann KMR81i and etc.

Q

Why are you not using the popular brand, Lectrosonics, for your wireless equipment?

A

I have been using WisyCom wireless system since 2013. The best feature of using this system is that it has 200Mhz range of frequency installed in their equipment, the widest in the market. Each different country uses different channel/range of frequency for their broadcast use. As other wireless brands sell their equipment by different blocks/channels, it is not cost efficient to buy different blocks of equipment just for that specific country. Therefore, WisyCom is the solution for that. It has also gain a lot of users in the Asia, America and Europe market.

Q

Do you have your own equipment? Do you rent them out?

A

Yes, I own all of my equipment. Therefore, it makes it very possible to book me at a very last minute as I don't have to face the hassle of renting certain equipments. Please look at my 'EQUIPMENT' page. And no, I don't rent out my equipment because I have trust issue with stranger using my equipment.
